China's scrap prices rise on firm demand
China's scrap steel prices rose last week on the back of restocking purchases by steel mills. Even though arrivals at mills increased last week, consumption was also higher and this boosted prices.
On Friday, Kallanish assessed 6mm+ heavy scrap delivered to mills in eastern China's Yangtze River Delta at CNY 2,891/tonne ($405/t), including VAT. This is CNY 7/t higher from Thursday and up CNY 34/t from a week before.
