China scrap consumption rises slowly, EAFs struggle: conference
China’s annual scrap consumption is expected to be slightly higher than last year in 2024, but prices may fluctuate in a lower range, according to Hu Hongsheng from China’s scrap information service company Fubao.
Annual scrap consumption was estimated to be 247.26 million tonnes in China last year. Within this, consumption by electric arc furnaces surged 13% year-on-year to 90.38mt, while blast furnace consumption rose 5.8% to 156.88mt.
