South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 31 (Aug. 4, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 31, published 4th August 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Southeast Asian blast furnaces showed mixed trends last week.
  • Flats: Recent bookings of Indian hot rolled coil in Vietnam show buyers are willing to pay more than a week earlier.
  • Longs: Southeast Asian rebar import markets are quiet. Buyers are rejecting higher offer prices. Indian rebar remains the more competitive.
  • Semis: The Philippine import market for billet has risen on stock replenishment activities by certain mills.
  • Raw Materials: Taiwanese scrap prices have fallen again due to sluggish demand, due to power cuts in the summer, and the overhauls of production lines.
