South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 28 (July 14, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 29, published 14th July 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.  Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Blast furnace activity across Southeast Asia recovered overall last week but remains below averages from earlier in the year. 
  • Flats: Steel demand is weak for imports of hot rolled coil in southern Vietnam.
  • Longs: Certain regional ASEAN mills have hiked export offers for wire rod amid a pick-up in the Chinese domestic steel market.
  • Semis: The Philippines import market for billet is quiet despite renewed import buying by Chinese buyers. 
  • Raw Materials: The Kanto Tetsugen Cooperative Association auction on 9 July awarded a 14,000t parcel to Itochu Metals Corp at JPY 47,888/t ($435/t) fas for H2 grade scrap.
