South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 18 (April 8, 2021)

  • Production: Southeast Asian blast furnace activity was slightly down last week, according to data based on heat measurement from satellite readings.
  • Flats: Vietnamese re-rollers are acceding to higher prices for hot rolled coil imports. Many Chinese mills have stopped giving out export offers in Vietnam amid continued uncertainties relating to a rumoured cut in Chinese export rebates.
  • Longs: The import market for rebar in Singapore and Hong Kong continues to attract bulk cargoes of rebar from outside East Asia.
  • Semis: Chinese billet buyers continue to bid higher for imports, with Chinese buying propelling prices higher in the ASEAN region.
  • Raw Materials: The Vietnamese scrap import market has firmed. Japanese-origin H2 scrap offers have risen to $445/tonne cfr southern Vietnam.
