South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 17 (April 15, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 19.

  • Production: Several southeast Asian blast furnaces saw activity increase last week, while most others saw stable activity levels.
  • Flats: Vietnamese buyers have once again paid up for hot rolled coil imports amid a price surge over the past two weeks.
  • Longs: The import market for rebar in Singapore and Hong Kong was quiet last week.
  • Semis: Billet suppliers have hiked offers in Southeast Asia in tandem with buoyant Chinese import buying. However, the region’s buyers are slow to follow the uptrend because domestic long steel markets are lagging.
  • Raw Materials: The latest Kanto Tetsugen export tender indicates that the Japanese scrap export market has stabilised on-month. Previously, the market experienced price volatility.

This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.  Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.
