Yaxin targets greener steel with larger converter
China’s Yaxin Iron & Steel Group is planning to build a larger converter, and targets a cut in carbon emissions through the upgrade, according to the capacity replacement plan for the project.
The new 150-tonne converter is expected to be constructed between November 2023 and October 2025, with 1.6 million tonnes/year of crude steel capacity, Kallanish notes. It will be accompanied by two 150t ladle furnaces and a 150t RH refining furnace.
