Wugang closes down another converter
Wuhan Iron & Steel (Wugang) in Hubei province has shut down another 80-tonne converter. So far three 80-t converters in its No.2 steelmaking plant have been dismantled, Kallanish notes.
The three converters were commissioned in 1977 with steel capacity of 1.5 million tonnes/year. After ten more years they increased capacity by 300,000 t/y by expanding the inner volume to 80 tonnes. Their capacity quotas have not been transferred.
