Weaker lira, low demand pressure Turkish scrap prices
Turkish mills are showing no interest in scrap purchases as the lira’s further weakening has increased uncertainty in the market. On the other hand, the large number of offers in the market allows mills to bide their time, until they have a clearer picture of their rebar sales.
Only two US-origin scrap bookings were heard last week, at $500-501/tonne cfr Turkey for HMS 1&2 80:20 and $519-520/t cfr for shredded.
