Weak steel demand hampers Sohar Port H1 throughput
Sohar Port saw dry bulk cargo throughput decline by 2.7 million tonnes on-year in the first half of 2016 to 10.6mt due to weak conditions in the global iron and steel industry, Oman’s largest port tells Kallanish.
This went against the trend in container volume and breakbulk cargo which grew 18.6% and 43% respectively on-year in H1 to 313,000 TEU and 1.23mt. Liquid bulk throughput rose 15% to 9.99mt.
