Weak demand continues to suppress steel futures
China’s steel demand fell last week, while production remained flat due to the drag of power supply shortages. Chinese rebar and hot rolled coil futures fluctuated wildly, but finally fell again on Monday, Kallanish notes.
On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, the January 2022 rebar contract closed CNY 75/tonne lower than last Friday at CNY 4,825/t ($756/t), and the same contract for HRC closed down CNY 128/t at CNY 5,180/t.
