USW decries USS labour reductions at Gary
The United Steelworkers (USW) labour union is protesting a move by US Steel to reduce its staffing levels at its Gary, Indiana, steelmaking complex, Kallanish learns from local media reports.
USW officials are quoted by several local outlets as saying that about 75 employees have been laid off and a further 200 demoted. Neither national nor local USW representatives immediately returned requests for comment. US Steel declined to comment.
