USSK ups first-quarter shipments, planned outage slashes output
US Steel Kosice (USSK) reported a 6% on-year growth in steel shipments in the first quarter to 1.11 million net tons. However, raw steel production fell 9% to 1.09mnt, giving capacity utilisation of 88% versus 97% a year earlier. This was due to a planned outage at blast furnace no.1.
The Slovakian plant sourced zero iron ore from its US parent company in Q1 versus 216,000nt a year earlier.
