USS, ArcelorMittal to idle tinplate operations
Two major US steelmakers plan to idle portions of their tinplate operations, Kallanish reports.
US Steel announced late Friday that it will idle its East Chicago Tin operations in Indiana by mid-November, forcing the lay-off of about 150 workers.
Separately, ArcelorMittal announced that it would idle its Weirton, West Virginia, mill – laying off about 100 workers in the process. That will begin immediately and be accomplished in phases, the company says…
