US Steel opts to idle Granite City
US Steel confirmed Monday that it will idle its Granite City, Illinois, sheet mill due to weak energy demand, Kallanish learns from a company statement.
The 2.8 million short ton/year facility is the primary skelp provider for US Steel’s Lone Star Tubular Operations facility in Lone Star, Texas. US Steel had already announced the possible idling on October 8 via a notice to its Granite City employees.
