US steel imports rise in March
US imports appear to have perked up substantially in March, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Citing preliminary Census Bureau data, the institute puts March total imports at 3.327 million short tons, 2.48m st of which was finished. That is up 34.2% and 23%, respectively, from February’s final tally.
Individual gains by product include rebar at 215%; coiled plate at 60%; and both hot- and cold-rolled sheet at 42%.
