US steel imports rise in January

US imports appear to have risen both month-on-month and year-on-year in January, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute. Citing Census Bureau data, the institute puts January total imports at 3.479 million short tons, 2.45m st of which was finished. That is up 83.3% and 46%, respectively, from December and 20.7% and 5%, also respectively, from January 2018. The institute estimates total import market share at 25% in January.
