US scrap exports see long-term slide
US ferrous scrap export volumes have been on a downward trajectory since at least 2011, according to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (Isri).
In 2011, the US exported about 23 million tonnes of ferrous scrap, according to Isri’s most recent Scrap Yearbook. That figure fell incrementally each proceeding year, eventually reaching 11.7m t in 2015, Kallanish notes.
