Both the US and Canadian rig counts increased in the week ended 9 October, Kallanish learns from energy services company Baker Hughes. 

The US rig count increased by three net rigs to 269, still down 587 from last year’s equivalent count. 

Rigs geared for oil production rose by four, while rigs geared for natural gas production fell by one. 

Texas led the notable net gains by state with three, while Pennsylvania led the losses with one. 

The Canadian count, meanwhile, rose by five net rigs to 80, down 66 from last year’s count.
