US rebar hovers around the $600/st threshold
US rebar prices continued to trend sideways this week with the price range hovering around the $600/short ton mark following a $30/st domestic price hike in late November, Kallanish reports.
A Northeast distributor maintains that rebar remains in the $595-600/st price range. This marks the second week of stagnating prices following the US rebar spot price increase of $5/st each week in the two weeks prior.
"Rebar prices appear to be sticking around the $600/st price mark. Demand has been strong into December with orders continuing at similar levels," the distributor says.
According to the distributor, unless something happens that would drastically change demand, US rebar prices are expected to hold around this price.
"I don't expect prices to change any time soon," the distributor adds.
As a result, Kallanish updated its price assessment Tuesday for #4 product in 20-foot sticks to $595-600/st. All prices are ex-works, domestic mill.
