US mill shipments fall in December
US steel mill shipments slipped by -1.2% from November to December, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute.
December shipments totaled 7.328 million short tons, down -1.2% on month but up 2.2% on year, Kallanish understands.
Hot-rolled sheet shipments increased 6%, but that was offset by a -7% drop in cold-rolled shipments and an -8% drop in hot-dipped galvanized shipments.
Total 2017 shipments were 90.886m st, up 5% from 2016.
