US manufacturing expands in March
The overall US manufacturing sector grew in March for the first time in the last six months, according to the Institute for Supply Management.
The institute’s manufacturing index – based on a poll of executives – grew from 49.5% to 51.8% in March. Index readings above 50% indicate growth, Kallanish notes.
By sector, both primary metals and fabricated metals registered growth, though appliances and petroleum products displayed contraction.
