US, Japan drag on January production growth
Crude steel production in the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) rose 4.8% on-year in January to 162.9 million tonnes, slowing further from December growth, Kallanish notes.
Chinese production is estimated to have risen 6.8% to 90.3mt, while Indian output accelerated further, growing 7.6% to 10mt. Japanese output fell again, by 3.9% to 7.92mt, but South Korean production increased 4.9% to 6.02mt. Vietnam produced an estimated 1.54mt…
