US sees steel imports tick up in December
Total US imports appear to have increased in December, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Citing Commerce Department permit data, the US imported 2,551,000 net tons of steel in December, up 8% from November’s preliminary tally of 2,351,000nt. Full-year imports were thus 38,844,000nt total steel and 31,416,000nt of finished steel. The AISI estimates finished steel import market share at 28% in December and 29% in 2015.
