US imports perk up in May

US imports appear to have trended up in May, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute. Citing US Department of Commerce permit data, the institute puts May total imports at 3.598 million short tons, 2.593m st of which was finished. That’s up 7.4% and 2.6%, respectively, from April’s final tallies. Year-to-date imports were 15.904m st in total and 12.069 m st finished, up 23.4% and 14.3%, respectively, from last year, Kallanish notes. …
