US imports lag in August

US imports appear to have fallen in August, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute. US imports totalled 2.989 million short ton in August, 2.307m of which were finished. That’s down 8.5% and 6.6%, respectively, from July. Standard pipe increases are up about 33% month on month, and wire rod increases are up 23%. Year-to-date imports are down 22% to 21.962m, 17.601m of which are finished.
