US imports increase in January
US steel imports moved up from December to January, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Using Census Bureau data, the institute puts January imports at 2.875 million short tons, 2.327m st of which was finished. That’s up 17.3% and 23.8%, respectively from December.
Metallic coated sheet and strip imports rose 129% month on month, Kallanish notes. Rebar imports increased 82%, and oil country tubular good imports increased 78%.
