US domestic scrap mostly settles, prices fall
US scrap trading, which started on 2 September, took a break on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.
Trading kicked off last Thursday with a Detroit mill offering lower prices, at $25/gross ton and $50/gt for obsolete and prime scrap respectively. Although such a decrease was met with resistance by scrap suppliers at first, trading was largely completed in the Mid-West at these prices.
