US domestic scrap demand firm despite weakening exports
US mills’ scrap demand remains strong, supported by finished steel demand and recent increases seen in steel prices. The strong US finished steel market is expected to continue supporting scrap pricing in October despite the weakened demand seen in export destinations.
Following the price rises seen in September, most market participants expect scrap prices to increase by another $10-20/tonne with October trading.
