UAE, Iran drive Mid-East DRI output growth
Middle Eastern direct reduced iron production in the four countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report surged 44% on-year in June to 3.55 million tonnes, Kallanish notes.
The region’s largest producer, Iran, is estimated to have increased output 65% in June to 2.54mt, while its crude steel output that month is estimated to have risen 16.5% to 2.08mt. This suggests there was some surplus DRI available for export.
