Turkish mills gauge steel demand before booking scrap
Most Turkish mills preferred to wait before accelerating their scrap purchases last week. Although there were a few imported scrap bookings, Kallanish observes that those mills with higher capacity utilisation concluded scrap purchases while others waited.
The latest scrap booking from the Baltic occurred at $495/tonne cfr Turkey for HMS 1&2 80:20. The long waiting period without sales is seen exerting pressure on Baltic suppliers.
