Turkey’s scrap imports fall further amid lower utilisation
Turkish scrap imports continued their downward trend in September. They fell by 12% on-year to 1.38 million tonnes, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data monitored by Kallanish. They were also down from 1.61mt in August.
Over 99%, or 1.37mt, of the September imports were obsolete scrap. The average price of this scrap was $387/tonne, down from $485/t in September 2021 and $396/t in August.
