Turkey's iron ore imports resumed growth in November, mainly thanks to supplies from Sweden and Canada, Kallanish notes from the latest Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data.

The increase in intake registered in November follows four consecutive months of year-on-year decline.

November's imports soared 54% on-year and 53% over October to 1.18 million tonnes. The total average value/tonne of these imports rose to $72.5/t from $67/t a year ago, calculations from TUIK data show.

Turkey’s iron ore import/rebar export spread widened to $310.5/t in November from $277/t a year ago. Scrap-rebar spread that month widened to $158/t from $127/t, same base.

Brazil remained Turkey's top iron ore supplier as its shipments increased 11% y-o-y to 570,089t in November. Brazil accounted for 48.2% of Turkey's total iron ore imports that month.

Sweden ranked second with 254,451t shipped and Canada was third with 169,965t delivered in November. No supplies were registered from the two countries a year earlier.

Imports from Russia plunged -78.5% y-o-y to 34,213t, while those from Ukraine were flat at 95,781t in the reviewed month.  

Turkey's crude steel production in November rose 10.4% y-o-y to 2.9mt, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association. Scrap-based production went up 15.4% y-o-y, following an 8.1% rise in October. Integrated mills' combined output climbed 1.5% in November, after rising by 9.6% on-year a month earlier.
