Turkey shuns Iran rebar but increases rod imports
Turkish imports of rebar from Iran fell to zero in the first quarter after spiking in 2019, Kallanish notes.
These imports in Q1 2019 were at 95,899 tonnes. Intake continued in Q2 but then dropped off in the second half of the year, giving a full-year 2019 total of 141,393t. In 2018 they had been just over 50,000t.
Turkish wire rod imports, however, rose 26% in Q1 to 85,392t. Spain remained the largest supplier, providing 28,954t of HS code 721391 rod and 4,651t …
