Truck tonnage rises in August
For-hire truck tonnage surged in August after a slight increase in July, according to the American Trucking Association.
The association’s for-hire tonnage index increased 7.1% in August, having risen just 0.5% in July. Trucking tonnage serves as a bellwether for general economic health, as 70% of all domestic freight is carried by truck, Kallanish notes.
