Truck freight tonnage grows in January
US for-hire truck tonnage rose in January, possibly signaling a leveling-out of the turbulence witnessed in 2016, Kallanish learns from the American Trucking Association.
The association’s index rose 2.9% in January after falling -4.3% in December. The index is up about 2.6% on year.
For-hire truck tonnage serves as a bellwether for the industrial economy in general, as 70.1% of all domestic tonnage is carried by truck.
