Total US August imports dip, YTD finished imports up
US total and finished steel imports fell month-on-month in August, though year-to-date finished steel imports remain up compared with last year, according to an update from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Citing preliminary Census Bureau data, the AISI reports that US total steel imports fell -8.2% in August to 3.016 million short tons. Finished steel imports likewise fell -6.7% from July’s final tally to 2.439m st, Kallanish understands.
