US supply surge lifts Turkish scrap imports
Following three months of drops, Turkish scrap imports recovered in May, rising by 10% on-year to 2.23 million tonnes, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data monitored by Kallanish.
Over 85%, or 2.19mt, of the May imports were obsolete scrap. The average price of this scrap was $616/tonne versus $440.5/t in May 2021 and $547/t in April. The US was the largest supplier with almost doubled supply at 493,344 tonnes. The Netherlands followed with 189,1…
