UK, Russia supply lifts Turkey’s January scrap imports
Turkish scrap imports continued to rise in January, by 18% on-year to 2 million tonnes. They were, however, down from 2.33mt in December, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data monitored by Kallanish.
Almost 95%, or 1.9mt, of the January imports were obsolete scrap. The UK was the main supplier at 377,204t, versus 92,720t last year. Russia, which increased its export duty on scrap from 31 January, accelerated its scrap shipments to Turkey in Januar…
