Taiwan’s monthly scrap import volumes rebound, values slip
Taiwan’s imports of carbon and stainless steel scrap dropped sharply in May on a year-on-year basis, despite a rebound on the prior month, according to preliminary data given by the Customs Administration of Taiwan.
May standalone imports totaled 292,591 tonnes, up 5.7% over April but down 18.8% y-o-y, Kallanish notes. For the average deal price of common carbon steel scrap, the value lost just 0.8% month-on-month and 10.9% on-year at $365/tonne.
