Taiwanese scrap prices hit 20-month high
The Taiwanese steel scrap market has this week hit its highest level since the end of March 2019, and high costs continue to put cost pressure on Taiwanese steel mills.
Compared to last week, offers of HMS 1&2 80:20 container scrap from the US West Coast have increased by about $10/tonne to $300-305/t cfr Taiwan. The main driver behind this is soaring scrap prices in Japan.
