Surging Chinese demand lifts Indian iron ore exports
Indian iron ore exports surged 81% on-year in June to 2.96 million tonnes, according to Indian commerce ministry data monitored by Kallanish. Their average value was $73/tonne versus $81/t in June 2018.
The main destination was China which increased intake 286% in June to 2.72mt. Japan followed with a 39% growth in intake to 74,000t, while France took in 55,000t versus zero a year earlier. The UK, however, took in zero versus 179,500t last year.
