Steel tariffs force nail manufacturer to reduce workforce
Section 232 may turn out to be the nail in the coffin for US-based Mid Continent Steel & Wire, the largest US producer of steel nails.
According to Chris Pratt, operations manager for Mid Continent, the 25% tariffs have raised the price of the steel wire that the company uses to produce nails. When that cost was passed on to end users, Mid Continent saw an immediate pushback, Kallanish has learned.
