Chinas steel imports slump on currency and weak auto
China imported just 870,000 tonnes of finished steel in February, down 24% from January and 11% year-on-year, according to China Customs statistics. China’s weak demand, especially its slow growth in automotive sales, has combined with a sharp currency depreciation over the last three months to push imports back from record highs in 2014, Kallanish notes.
