SSAB introduces new high hardness, low-temp tempering steel
Sweden’s SSAB tells Kallanish that its new grade of steel, named M43, introduces a number of innovations in both its production and use.
The product can be quenched in plain water without an immediate need for tempering and still reach exceptionally high values for hardness and impact strength. This is a cheaper, safer and more environmentally process than that using aqueous quenching fluids or oil, the steelmaker says.
