South32's coal mine expansion plan faces rejection
South32's plan to expand its Dendrobium coal mine in Australia’s Illawarra region has been rejected by the New South Wales Government Independent Planning Commission (IPC), Kallanish notes.
This is because IPC found environmental impact risks are ''…likely to be irreversible.'' The authority says expanding the two areas would threaten Greater Sydney and the Illawarra's drinking water catchment.
