Higher ferrochrome demand lifts Merafe earnings
South Africa’s Merafe Resources achieved substantial earnings growth as an upswing in ferrochrome demand contributed to increased sales volumes, while average export prices increased, Kallanish heard during the firm’s earnings presentation on Tuesday.
In the first half of the year, the company recorded a revenue surge of 60% on-year to ZAR 3.74 billion ($252.5 million), with ferrochrome sales comprising 86.2% and chrome ore sales 13.8%.
