Imports into South Africa fall 36% in Q1
South African steel imports, excluding stainless steel, declined -36% on-year in the first quarter to 313,100 tonnes, Kallanish learns from the South African Iron and Steel Institute.
Imports of semi-finished products took the biggest hit, plunging -81% in Q1 to 6,000t. Long product imports fell -38% to 66,000t and flats imports declined -31% to 241,200t.
