South Africa to decide on Hegang steelworks next year
South Africa’s Industrial Development Corp (IDC) will decide whether or not to proceed with a Chinese-led 5 million tonnes/year steelworks project in the country in 2016, local media reports. The project would have several advantages over other producers in supplying growing African demand but the local steel industry is already concerned about overcapacity, Kallanish notes.
