Showa Denko buys SGL electrode business
Japan’s Showa Denko K.K. has agreed to buy out SGL Carbon’s graphite electrode segment, catapulting it to first place among global suppliers to EAF steelmakers. The graphite electrode market has slumped as blast furnace costs have fallen but the market could be close to the bottom, Kallanish notes.
